Apple Privacy That's iPhone billboards...

Rather sadly Apple's creative Shot and Edited on iPhone outdoor ad campaign was a short-lived blip in the city skyline, and that was followed by a bunch of people staring at their iPhones.

These days you can't walk down the street without seeing someone looking at their smartphone, and hands up who hasn't done exactly the same thing and even walked into a lamppost, or two, because they were too preoccupied checking their social media feeds.

So these new billboards from Apple are a little sad, even if they do reflect the times we are living in.

Obviously privacy is a really important factor in these days of cyber crime, identity theft and data harvesting, so Apple has introduced everyday apps to protect your privacy.

Safari helps stop advertisers from tracking you from site to site, Maps and Siri doesn't associate your data with your Apple ID, apparently Photos protects your images from unwanted exposure, Apple can't read you iMessages and Wallet/Apple Pay doesn't keep transaction information that can be tied back to you.

Those do seem like useful tools, so how is it that new targeted online adverts pop up on our social media platforms when we have talked about something, even if we've turned microphone settings to off?

On the positive side, these Apple iPhone billboards appear to showcase a broad spectrum of genders, ethnicities and ages even though their faces are hidden, reinforcing the privacy message.

These latest outdoor ads were photographed along the Sunset Strip, Beverly Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard, Melrose Avenue, Wilshire Boulevard and Vine Street from September 13 to September 27, 2020.

Before this latest wave of privacy billboards, this wall mural ad was snapped along Melrose Avenue and the giant-sized portrait billboard was captured in Downtown L.A. on August 20, 2019.

Plus this other giant landscape billboard was also snapped along West Hollywood's Sunset Strip on September 21, 2019.

Obviously in these times when people are increasingly aware that Facebook, Twitter and the like are weaponising and profiting from your data more and more, Apple feels like their customers value their privacy enough to include it in their marketing.

As always Daily Billboard wants to know what's next for Apple in the sprawling out-of-home skyline, especially when we'd normally be heading to the gift-giving holiday season which will obviously be impacted by the ongoing pandemic in the coming months.
