2020 Oscar nominee billboards...

2020 Oscars billboard
This year the Oscars have come early to Hollywood to combat flagging ratings of the live telecast (they usually take place toward the end of the month), so not wanting to be late to the party it's time for the 92nd annual Academy Awards.

Once again the ceremony will be host less, but there's still be plenty of guest presenters and past winners to introduce the awards categories.

This year streaming giant Netflix has had their best journey to the Oscars, garnering 24 nominations for its motion pictures, animated features and documentary offerings.

Campaigning for awards season doesn't come cheap, and aside from all the film festivals and schmoozing with all the right people, studios have increasingly used outdoor advertising to make their films visible around Hollywood in recent years. Check out this cool collection of Academy Award nominees filling L.A.'s crowded awards season skies.

First up is Joker, the leader of the Oscar pack with a stunning eleven nominations, breaking through that comic book movie stigma of previous awards seasons.

Joaquin Phoenix is certainly the favourite to take home the Leading Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the mentally ill part-time clown and aspiring stand-up comedian, in this solo origin story for the arch-nemesis of DC's Dark Knight, 'Batman'.

Todd Phillips supervillain movie is also nominated for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Music Score, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing.
