Sometimes television shows can turn out better than movies of the same names, be it Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Westworld or Friday Night Lights to name a few examples.

Often it's to do with the source material and having to cut so many important storylines and character moments to fit it into a movie, whereas as an episodic series can expand and explore more of these elements.

The Golden Compass may have failed to kickstart a new film franchise in the vein of Harry Potter over ten years ago, but it looks like this TV drama will have some staying power as they've already finished filming the second season even before this series has even aired.

Let's hope this adaptation is as epic as the books its based on.
