The hit Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated show created by Jenji Kohan, about the female inmates and employees at Litchfield Penitentiary was based on the real-life experiences chronicled by Piper Kerman in her 2010 memoir.
The series followed the incarceration of Taylor Schilling's 'Piper Chapman' for her involvement with her old drug smuggling girlfriend and the six seasons to date explored her experiences, friendships, loves and enemies during her time spent behind bars.
In the comedy-drama we also got to meet a diverse ensemble cast of fellow inmates all going through their own trails, tribulations betrayals and relationships. They include Kate Mulgrew's Russian cook and matriarch 'Red', to Natasha Lyonne's drug addict 'Nicky', Laverne Cox's groundbreaking transgender character 'Sophia', Dascha Polanco's 'Daya's' pregnancy and the death of Samira Wiley's 'Poussey' (both by a prison guard), the exploration of mental illness with Uzo Aduba's 'Crazy Eyes' and many more characters with unique backstories and circumstances besides.
These final season billboards featuring fan art, showing how beloved the series is, were snapped above Westwood Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard on July 17, 2019.
Fans of the Netflix series can also enjoy these previous season promo and awards consideration billboards for Orange is the New Black from years past.
At the end of the sixth season Piper was released from federal prison to begin life again as a free woman, and former inmate.
What will the future hold for her, and more importantly the women still trying to survive day-to-day in the mass incarceration prison system.
Whatever happens, it looks like their legacy will live on. 'Orange forever', indeed.
