Based on Jeff Malmberg's 2010 documentary Marwencol, the story follows 'Mark Hogancamp' (Carell) who is brutally assaulted in a hate crime which leaves him brain damaged with little recollection of his adult life.
To aid his recovery he therapuetically builds an intricately detailed miniature World War II village and populates it with G.I. Joe action figures and Barbie dolls, some based on the people in his life (played by the likes of Leslie Mann, Janelle Monae, Merritt Wever, Gwendoline Christie, Leslie Zemeckis and Eiza González), and photographs the tableaus.
These movie billboards and street posters were spied along Westwood Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, Lankershim Boulevard, Melrose Avenue, Highland Avenue and Robertson Boulevard from November 27 through December 19, 2018.
Fans of the movie can also check out these miniature WWII village models and props from Welcome to Marwen on display.
Steve Carell admirers can also enjoy these movie billboards for Crazy Stupid Love, these film billboards for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and this Dinner for Schmucks movie billboard, to name but a few.
In a world filled with real-life Nazis, bullies and thugs, this charming story sounds like the perfect antidote to today's increasingly cruel world this holiday season, but it sounds like you may need a box of tissues for the tears along with the popcorn.
