Since Netflix started offering original content on its subscription streaming service in 2013 it has delivered a wide variety of exclusive shows like Orange is the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Stranger Things, Narcos and The Crown, to name but a few.
The streaming giant has also been quite partial to remaking, rebooting and reviving series like with House of Cards, Gilmore Girls, Fuller House, The Magic Bus Rides Again, She's Gotta Have It, A Series of Unfortunate Events and Queer Eye, with the latest offering dipped in nostalgia being their 2018 version of Lost in Space.
Based on the original 1965 series by Irwin Allen which ran for three seasons and spawned the 1998 cinematic adaptation, this updated version is once again like the Swiss Family Robinson in space, shipwrecked on an extraterrestrial planet, rather than on a desert island.
In the year 2046 when the Earth can no longer sustain them, human colonists leave for the stars including the 'Robinsons' aboard the Jupiter 2 spaceship, but their vessel is knocked off course and lands on a strange alien planet where these intrepid explorers have to survive in order to escape.
Molly Parker plays aerospace engineer 'Maureen Robinson' and Toby Stephens plays her husband and expedition commander 'John Robinson', whilst Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall and Maxwell Jenkins play their three children 'Judy', 'Penny' and 'Will'.
Also along for the adventure is Ignacio Serricchio who plays the roguish 'Don West' and Posey Parker as the troublesome 'Dr. Smith', with the sci-fi show also featuring a reimagined version of the 'Robot', most famous for spouting his famous line "Danger, Will Robinson".
You can always tell when Netflix wants to really push a new show as they flood their outdoor ad inventory with multiple billboard creatives, just as in this case.
All these different sizes and formats of launch billboards were spied along Robertson Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard, Vine Street, Melrose Avenue, the Sunset Strip and La Brea Avenue from April 2 to April 10, 2018.
The key art with the Robot facing Will Robinson is especially arresting, alien and filled with wonder, whilst the crashed 3D Jupiter 2 spacecraft makes for a great spectacle around the city streets.
Meanwhile for another crashed spaceship installation example, be sure to also check out this supercool Rick and Morty 3D UFO billboard from 2013.
This slice of spacefaring adventure is also much more family friendly than their other recent sci-fi fare like Sense8 and Altered Carbon, with a lot less grit, violence and nudity.
Can these marooned explorers capture the imagination of a whole new generation, whilst exploiting the nostalgia of those who remember the earlier iterations and find their place in TV history, luckily you won't have to wait long to find out.
