The sci-fi series stars Joel Kinnaman as the deadly mercenary 'Takeshi Kovacs' and is set in a future where people's consciousnesses are digitally downloaded onto 'stacks', storage devices attached to the back of a person's neck, and physical bodies are mere 'sleeves', disposable biological vessels.
Awoken 250 years after his last sleeve is killed, Takeshi Kovacs is offered the choice to go to prison or win his freedom by playing detective and finding the killer of the wealthiest man in the world.
In addition to all the striking billboards filling the skies of L.A. at the moment, to create excitement and turn heads for the launch of the series, Netflix has produced some truly creepy naked body 'sleeves' for bus shelters around West Hollywood.
These Altered Carbon billboards featuring naked sleeves were photographed along the Sunset Strip, Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard from January 22 to January 31, 2018.
Meanwhile these amazing life-size 3D bus shelter installations were photographed and filmed along Santa Monica Boulevard on January 31 and February 1, 2018.

Joel Kinnaman is no stranger to sci-fi and you can also check him out in these RoboCop movie remake billboards, plus for another fun bus shelter installation be sure to take a look at this Pan Am TV series example from 2011.
If you like the sound of this thrilling slice of science fiction, then don't worry there are two other books in the Takeshi Kovacs series, Broken Angels and Woken Furies, to draw future inspiration and stories from.
And remember, 'No body lives forever'.
