For their first outing their outdoor advertising certainly referenced Star Wars liberally, but this time around the plucky band of misfits seem to be leaning into their alienness and embracing their comedic qualities for their cinematic sequel.
Coming together to defeat the Kree Accuser 'Ronan' in their first adventure, 'Star-Lord' (Chris Pratt), 'Gamora' (Zoe Saldana), 'Drax' (Dave Bautista), 'Rocket' (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and 'Baby Groot' (voiced by Vin Diesel) are back with another awesome mixtape to accompany their ongoing misadventures in the outer reaches of the cosmos.
This time around we'll learn more details about 'Star-Lord/Peter Quill's' parentage, face new intergalactic threats and see more fan-favourite cosmic characters leap from the pages of Marvel's comic books, like Pom Klementieff's 'Mantis' and Kurt Russell's 'Ego The Living Planet'.
Even old foes like 'Nebula' (Karen Gillan) and 'Yondu' (Michael Rooker) may have to become necessary allies to help keep their newfound family together.
Marvel Studios movies just keep getting better and better as each director, cast and crew push the boundaries of storytelling, visual effects and characterisation, and deliver fun, action-packed adventures that seem to please fanboys and the masses alike.
Who knew that these mostly D-List cosmic comic book characters would one day be the stellar rock stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe they've become.
