The Ivory Game documentary film billboards...

In the past few years Netflix has enjoyed great success in securing Oscar nominations for its original documentaries, like 2013's The Square, 2014's Virunga and 2015's What Happened, Miss Simone?, but none of them has been able to take home the coveted golden statue.

Will The Ivory Game about wildlife activists taking on illegal elephant poachers in Africa, directed by Kief Davidson and Richard Ladkani, be the first to capture an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature?

This striking Netflix documentary billboard was first snapped along the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood on November 4, 2016, whilst the awards consideration billboards were captured further east along the Sunset Strip and along Highland Avenue on January 6, 2017.

No doubt the documentary will face tough competition this year, including Netflix's own 13th documentary by Ava DuVernay (although the Amanda Knox documentary directed by Brian McGinn and Rod Blackhurst didn't make this year's shortlist).

Even if the film doesn't win at the 89th Academy Awards ceremony on February 26, 2017, the fact that this documentary was made helps shine a spotlight on the plight of these majestic, endangered animals.
