Now the story written and directed by Barry Jenkins, about an African-American boy called 'Chiron' growing up in 1980s Miami with a drug addicted mother (played by Naomie Harris) has garnered an impressive eight Oscar nominations.
Three different actors played the main character through different stages of his life, Alex Hibbert, Ashton Sanders and Trevante Rhodes, each bringing complexity and vulnerability to the role as he finds comfort with a surrogate drug-dealing father figure (Mahershala Ali) as a child and struggles with his sexuality and a life of crime through his young life to adulthood.

Mahershala Ali recently took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, so let's see if Moonlight can continue its award success in the coming weeks.
