John Waters iconic musical about racial integration in early 1960s Baltimore gets an update on his 1988 original and the 2007 remake, as larger teenage girl 'Tracy Turnblad' (played by newcomer Maddie Baillio) realises her dreams of appearing on a popular TV dance show.
This 2016 staged and aired live adaptation boasts the star power of Kristin Chenoweth, Derek Hough, Rosie O'Donnell, Sean Hayes, Martin Short, Harvey Fierstein, Billy Eichner, Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande to name but a few of the talent involved.
These vibrant billboards for the live special were first snapped above Sunset Boulevard on November 3, then along La Cienega Boulevard the next day.
For NBC's previous live musicals, be sure to also enjoy this billboard for The Sound of Music Live!, this Peter Pan Live! billboard and this billboard for The Wiz Live!
In these dark times we need a little light and a reminder of how far we've come, so let the beat go on and let's hope this reimagining of Hairspray can inspire another generation to see beyond the colour of someone's skin, how they look, who they love, or where they come from.

UPDATED: Here's also an Emmy consideration billboard for the musical special snapped along West Hollywood's Sunset Strip on June 2, 2017. Sometimes the Emmy ad creatives are stronger than the original launch versions.

Plus here's another example spotted high over Westwood Boulevard on June 9, 2017.
