There's something wonderfully jarring about these pink, slightly out of focus billboards for HBO's new comedy series, Insecure, that really makes them stand out.

Issa Rae, the star of the hit web series The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl, co-created the new show with Larry Wilmore and stars as 'Issa Dee'.
The half-hour comedy follows the struggles, relationships and everyday encounters of her and her best friend (played by Yvonne Orji), as two modern-day African American women navigating their professional and love lives in South L.A.
These vibrant series launch billboards for Insecure were snapped along Gower Street, Sunset Boulevard and Pico Boulevard from September 21 to October 8, 2016.
Meanwhile the giant-sized version was photographed towering over westbound traffic along the infamous Sunset Strip on October 8, 2016.
With the success in recent years of series like Empire and Black-ish (and Netflix's Luke Cage of late), it looks like more and more studios are starting to realise that there's a huge audience, and talent pool to draw on, for more comedies, dramas and programming on TV from a black and more diverse perspective.

If this show becomes a hit, we're sure Issa Rae won't be feeling insecure, or awkward, for too much longer.

And that brings another TV WEEK here at Daily Billboard to a close, come back tomorrow for some of the latest movie and documentary film ad creatives turning heads this month in the city skyline.

UPDATED: Insecure's debut season seems to have been a hit for HBO, but can that acclaim translate into Emmy success for the show? Maybe this 'Revolutionary' Emmy consideration billboard snapped above Sunset Boulevard on June 12, 2017 can help convince TV Academy voters.
