With the Fall TV season imminent and more people cutting the cord from cable, Netflix continues to attract big names and creators for its programming with Baz Luhrmann exploring the birth of the hip-hop movement in the new series, The Get Down.
Depicting the rise of hip-hop in the Bronx in 1977 the budget for the series, with the first six streaming now and another six due to drop in 2017, is reportedly $120 million (that's $10 million an episode, each the cost of a small budget independent movie).
Justice Smith stars as 'Ezekiel', a teen poet living with his aunt and uncle in the late 70s and in love with his best friend and aspiring disco singer 'Mylene Cruz' (Herizen Guardiola). Zeke and his teenage pals, including 'Dizzee' (played by Jaden Smith), find their lives changed forever when a graffiti artist named 'Shaolin Fantastic' (Shameik Moore) who introduces them to an emerging sound called hip-hop.
These fab retro-looking series premiere billboards for the Netflix series were snapped high above Beverly Boulevard and along Santa Monica Boulevard on August 11, 2016.

UPDATED: The Get Down truly is an amazing series with depth, great characters and high production values, so it's no wonder that Netflix is lending some ad extra support for the series.
This 'A joyous celebration' billboard was snapped along Pico Boulevard on September 10, 2016, and it also highlights Baz Luhrmann's involvement with the project, providing some extra incentive for those on the fence about watching.

UPDATED: The second part of Baz Luhrmann's ambitious hip-hop musical drama is back in the skies of L.A.
This time around the billboard support the Netflix show seems decidedly low key, although this small outdoor ad was spied along the highly trafficked Sunset Strip on March 24, 2017.
