Olympic gold medal winner Johnny Weissmuller breathed life into the literary hero in the 1930s and 40s, Christopher Lambert notably starred in 1984's Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, which was nominated for three Oscars, Disney animated the man raised by gorillas in the 1999 musical feature film, and there have been countless other TV and movie adaptations.
This time around True Blood's sexy vampire Alexander Skarsgård is the muscular man in the loincloth (or tight trousers by the looks of these ad creatives).
David Yates directs this live-action outing set in the 1880's Congo, with Tarzan having reacclimatised to a life in London, England as the wealthy 'Lord Greystoke', he's drawn back to his former jungle home to investigate a diabolical diamond mining threat.
Margot Robbie stars as his beautiful, strong-willed wife 'Jane', Samuel L. Jackson is the American diplomatic envoy, whilst Djimon Hounsou is Tarzan's tribal chief rival and Christoph Waltz continues to enjoy playing the villain.
These atmospheric Tarzan billboards were spied around the streets of L.A. from June 8 to June 25, 2016, including along Fairfax Avenue, Santa Monica Boulevard, Wilshire Boulevard, Melrose Avenue, Olympic Boulevard, Highland Avenue and the Sunset Strip.Fans of Alexander Skarsgård can also enjoy more of the actor in these True Blood TV billboards, this Calvin Klein fragrance billboard, this Hickey Freeman fashion billboard and these Straw Dogs movie billboards.

Plus for more monkey business, make sure to also take a look these Dawn of the Planet of the Apes movie billboards and for another Edgar Rice Burroughs creation, check out these John Carter movie billboards.
Only time will tell whether Tarzan can be lord of the box office this holiday weekend and whether he'll be swinging back into action in future film sequels.
