Inspired by real-life events, Tom Hanks pays a lawyer ('James B. Donovan') during the Cold War era recruited by the CIA for an intense negotiation mission to secure the release of an American pilot whose spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union, in exchange for a KGB intelligence captured for espionage in the U.S.

UPDATED: Now that the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice and SAG Awards are out of the way (some nods but no wins), it's time to focus on the upcoming 88th annual Oscars.
