Whereas AHS retained a lot of the same cast in wildly varying roles from season to season, True Detective, appears to have opted for reshuffling the deck entirely.
Succeeding Golden Globe and Emmy nominees Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are fellow movie star counterparts, Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch.
With this all-star cast it'll be interesting to see how the drama unfolds as a bizarre murder brings three law enforcement officers and a career criminal together in this California based thriller, especially as this season's tagline, 'We get the world we deserve' sounds extremely ominous.
As an extra incentive, Fast & Furious movie director Justin Lin is on board to direct the first two episodes of this sophomore season.
Cutting the top of the actors heads off in these billboard creatives is certainly a unique design choice and adds an air of mystery and anonymity to the proceedings.
The landscape billboards for this returning HBO crime series were spied along La Brea Avenue, 3rd Street, La Cienega Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard, whilst the smaller square Vince Vaughn version was snapped along Fairfax Avenue from May 19 to May 23, 2015.
Meanwhile the giant-sized billboard for True Detectives second season, featuring Colin Farrell, was snapped dominating the skyline over the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood on May 23, 2015.
If you're a fan of the crime anthology series, be sure to also check out these True Detective season one billboards around L.A. from the end of 2013.
If you're an admirer of Colin Farrell, you can also enjoy these futuristic Total Recall movie remake billboards and find him looking dapper in these Winter's Tale movie billboards, whilst you can check Vince Vaughn out in these Delivery Man film billboards and these billboard ads for The Internship. You can also see why these two actors were tempted back to television after a series of box office flops.
For more Rachel McAdams, you can take a look at these giant About Time movie billboards and billboards for The Vow, while for more Taylor Kitsch you can check out these John Carter movie billboards and Savages film billboards.

UPDATED: Not to feel left out, Vince Vaughn also gets the super-sized treatment along the Sunset Strip before the new season debuts.
This giant-sized True Detective season two billboard was snapped on June 14, 2014 and we have one thing to say Vince, "You're so money!"
