TV WEEK: The Brink series premiere billboards...

The Brink series premiere billboard
Would you trust Tim Robbins or Jack Black with their finger on the nuclear button?
The Brink HBO series billboard
Think about it, Tim Robbins has played a homegrown terrorist in 1999's Arlington Road and lost his mind in 2005's War of the Worlds, whilst Jack Black is a renowned joker, right?
The Brink season 1 billboard
Forget if you can for the moment that this ad creative with a big red button could easily be a billboard for a brand new high-stakes game show, The Brink is described as a epic dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis which could send the world tumbling into World War III.

Trying to avert catastrophe are three very different men, U.S. Secretary of State 'Walter Larson' (played by Robbins), 'Alex Talbot' a lowly Foreign Service officer (portrayed by Black) and Pablo Schreiber's ace Navy fighter pilot, 'Zeke Tilson' (who's just not famous enough to fit on the promotional posters, although you'd know him as 'Pornstache' from Orange is the New Black). Hopefully they'll be up to the job despite their flawed characters.

Fans of Jack Black can also check out the funny guy in this movie billboard for Gulliver's Travels from way back in 2010.

Let's face it with the state of current political and diplomatic relations around the world, if you can't laugh at the threat of global annihilation, then you may just as well roll over and die.

UPDATED: Now that the new series has made its debut it's been given some extra support in the form of this giant-sized billboard towering over the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood on June 26, 2015.

Daily Billboard hadn't thought about it before, but the finger coming from above has a Monty Python-esque quality to it.

This super-sized creative also allows for each actor's name to be above his face, which is always a distraction when they over the wrong person.

TV WEEK: Stitchers series premiere billboards...

Stitchers series premiere billboard
This Summer are you ready to dive into a new procedural drama with a twist of sci-fi from ABC Family? If so then Stitchers is the new series for you.
Stitchers season 1 billboard
Emma Ishta stars as 'Kirsten', a new recruit in a top secret government agency tasked with being 'stitched' into the minds of recent murder victims to use their memories to uncover what happened to them. Because unlike the deceased, memories never die.
Stitchers season 1 billboard
These watery series premiere billboards for Stitchers (who sound a bit like a group of needlework enthusiasts) were snapped from May 18 to May 20, 2015, in the skies of Olympic Boulevard, Beverly Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard.
Stitchers series premiere billboard
The premise of this new show sounds a bit like The CW's iZombie, without the need to eat brains to access the memories, so let's hope there's something else original here as Daily Billboard's not forgotten that retrieving the memories of the dead has been a staple of the science fiction genre for many years.

TV WEEK: True Detective season two billboards...

Giant True Detective season 2 billboard
The wonderful thing about FX's American Horror Story, was that it could tell different, self-contained stories each season, but under the same horror anthology series umbrella. The same is true of HBO's crime anthology series, True Detective, although only time will tell whether this second season will live up to the critical acclaim of the inaugural season.
True Detective season 2 Rachel McAdams billboard
Whereas AHS retained a lot of the same cast in wildly varying roles from season to season, True Detective, appears to have opted for reshuffling the deck entirely.

Succeeding Golden Globe and Emmy nominees Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are fellow movie star counterparts, Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch.
True Detective season 2 Taylor Kitsch billboard
With this all-star cast it'll be interesting to see how the drama unfolds as a bizarre murder brings three law enforcement officers and a career criminal together in this California based thriller, especially as this season's tagline, 'We get the world we deserve' sounds extremely ominous.

As an extra incentive, Fast & Furious movie director Justin Lin is on board to direct the first two episodes of this sophomore season.

Cutting the top of the actors heads off in these billboard creatives is certainly a unique design choice and adds an air of mystery and anonymity to the proceedings.

TV WEEK: HBO Emmy Consideration 2015 billboards...

Game of Thrones season 5 Emmy 2015 billboard
Last year HBO garnered a whopping 99 Emmy nominations for its shows and movies and took home 19 accolades, more than any other network on both counts, so it's no wonder that it spends so much money on its outdoor Emmy Consideration ad campaign.
Veep season 4 Emmy 2015 billboard
Yes, it's that special time of year again and once again HBO has incorporated the season key art for each of their series and utilised positive quotes and reviews from media publications, radio stations and websites to help sell the shows and nab as many nominations as possible.
Last Week Tonight John Oliver Emmy 2015 billboard
Daily Billboard first spied the updated fifth season Game of Thrones Emmy billboard on May 10 with its "The best TV show ever" quote, and after spying the amended Veep and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver creatives, wondered if this year's theme was 'the best'.
Silicon Valley season 2 Emmy 2015 billboard
However as more HBO Emmy billboards started appearing though May 20, 2015, we realised this was not the case. Maybe there weren't enough 'best' reviews to go around, or maybe it's impossible for every single one of their shows to literally be the best on TV, as that's a bit contradictory.
The Leftovers Emmy 2015 billboard
The second season of HBO's tech comedy, Silicon Valley, was "Start-to-finish hilarious" according to Variety, whilst the first season adapting Tom Perrotta's book The Leftovers was described as "Powerful" in The New Yorker's opinion (although the word Daily Billboard would probably have used would be "Depressing").
Bill Maher Emmy 2015 billboard
The ever outspoken Bill Maher was labelled "Provocative" by The Hollywood Reporter for his political talk show and HBO's Olive Kitteridge mini-series was proclaimed a "Masterpiece" by NPR (and the Golden Globes must have agreed as Frances McDormand was nominated for Best Actress for the titular role).

This year their cohesive Emmy campaign also seems to include a billboard for HBO's sister premium channel, Cinemax, supporting the debut of their period medical drama, The Knick, which was described as "Truly bold" by The Hollywood Reporter.

Be sure to compare this year's contenders with the HBO Emmy billboard campaign from 2014 and ads from 2013.

Plus take a look at what the competition did with these other Emmy Consideration 2014 ad campaigns.
Veep Emmy 2015 billboard
An Emmy Award recognises excellence in the television industry and to win is great, but supporting your programming with high profile outdoor ad campaigns in L.A. also helps stroke the egos of the talent involved in producing them (we know what delicate flowers they can be).

Also in these days of the digital world we live in with DVR and VOD viewing habits, an Emmy win may encourage someone to check out a series or season they've previously missed, and binge-watch it in its entirety.

Daily Billboard loves this time of year when all the studios and networks start battling it out in the city skyline to grab your attention, not just for new season shows and returning favourites, but also for television from the past twelve months.
The Leftovers Emmy 2015 billboard
Daily Billboard is sure more HBO Emmy billboards may pop up at some stage, possibly for Girls and Vice, so we'll keep our eyes to the skies.

Plus stay tuned for even more Emmy Consideration billboards from other channels and networks in the days and weeks to come.

UPDATED: OMG, how could Daily Billboard have forgotten 'Valerie Cherish' from The Comeback amongst HBO's pantheon of starlets?
The Comeback Emmy 2015 billboard
Here's the Emmy billboard, snapped along Beverly Boulevard on May 28, 2015, for the comedy that made its triumphant return after almost ten years and yes, it was worth it. "Dazzling... sharp and funny", indeed.

Plus here's the Emmy billboard for the truly "Groundbreaking" documentary series about Robert Durst (the notorious killer that got away with murder quite literally, until now, because of this HBO show). This ad creative for the The Jinx was spied along Pico Boulevard on June 5, 2015.
