Halloween Horror Nights Universal Studios Hollywood billboards 2014...

Walking Dead Halloween Horror Nights Universal Studios billboard 2014
Happy Halloween, although 'happy' never seems quite appropriate on today's spooky annual festivities.

If you're a fan of frights, then Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights are probably your cup of tea (or witches brew at least), with all its nighttime thrills, themed interactive mazes and scare zones based on iconic horror TV and film franchises.

This year AMC's phenomenally successful zombie apocalypse drama, The Walking Dead, is back in the skies of L.A. to promote the annual events and the theme park's ad creatives are always much more graphic, with full on rotting flesh zombie imagery, than the television show ever goes for in its more subtle outdoor advertising.

In addition to The Walking Dead, the horror this year is provided by the likes of iconic sci-fi franchises Alien vs. Predator, plus new monster movies like Dracula Untold and disturbing film sequels like The Purge: Anarchy.

New TV spin-offs like From Dusk Till Dawn and cinematic classics like An American Werewolf in London also provide creatures like vampires and lycanthropes to terrorize visitors, then to provide further nightmares for guests, there's a gaggle of creepy clowns to provide some unforgettable haunting memories, plus many more Halloween scares to be had.

The Walking Dead themed ad creative was first spied high over San Vicente Boulevard on September 14, whilst the smaller version was snapped the next day along the Sunset Strip.

Meanwhile the Alien vs Predator billboard was spotted along Ventura Boulevard in Studio City on October 9, 2014.

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride 2014 billboard
Have you had you fill of Halloween frights yet?

It may be clawing its way out of Hell, but design wise Daily Billboard thinks this ad creative would be so much better if the creepy hand was reaching outwards towards passersby and not inwards, so as if it was coming from the pumpkin head.

These spooky Jack O' Lantern themed billboards were snapped high above Wilshire Boulevard on October 3 and along Sunset Boulevard on October 6, 2014.

Meanwhile the company that produces the Haunted Hayride both in L.A. and in New York, Ten Thirty One Productions (who've been featured on the business pitch show Shark Tank), is also responsible for the Summer's Great Horror Campout.

The Curse of Oak Island season two TV billboard...

Curse of Oak Island season 2 History billboard
The Curse of Oak Island is back for a second season on History with this spooky ad creative just in time for Halloween.
Curse Oak Island season 2 billboard
This billboard could easily be for a horror or supernatural movie with that skull hovering ominously over the silhouetted island, but it's actually for a TV series which follows the Lagina Brothers hunt for a legendary hidden treasure on the small island just off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada.

Back in 1795 three boys discovered a man-made hole filled with intriguing artifacts on the small wooded isle, which led to a history of treasure seekers for over 200 hundred years and millions of dollars spent in its pursuit. The infamous pirate's treasure has yet to be found, but some folks still believe the answer is still down there.

This arresting sophomore season billboard was snapped along the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood on October 13, 2014.

If you like this outdoor ad creative, be sure to also enjoy these other billboards for History's TV shows from recent times.

The Newsroom final season three TV billboards...

The Newsroom giant final season 3 billboard
All good things come to an end and every story needs a final word.

This November Aaron Sorkin's political news and current affairs journalism drama, The Newsroom, will air its final episodes and it'll be interesting to see what recent world events the series will tackle and how many people will be offended by it.
The Newsroom final season 3 billboard
Jeff Daniels won an Emmy for his role as news anchor 'Will McAvoy' in the acclaimed HBO drama (although chewing gum through his acceptance speech wasn't terribly classy), but some critics and professional news organizations have seen the show as an attack on their methods and journalistic skills, especially as the storylines as based on actual events that have happened.

Some people just need to get over themselves, as this fictional behind-the-scenes look at the production and personal relationships of a nightly cable new show is equally entertaining and thought-provoking, and at least stretches audience's brain cells more than all those predictable procedural crime dramas that continue to proliferate most TV channels.

The final episodes ad creative with Jeff Daniels back to us and the lens flare on the camera evokes both the fast-paced world of newscasting and the sense of something coming to a close, plus it also harkens back to the season one billboards for The Newsroom.

This giant-sized third season billboard was snapped along the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood on October 8, whilst the standard landscape billboards were spotted further east along Sunset Boulevard on October 15 and above Olympic Boulevard on October 23, 2014.

Daily Billboard is sad to see The Newsroom go off the air, so let's hope these final episodes go out with a dramatic bang and not an apologetic whimper.

Dumb and Dumber To movie billboards...

Once in a while a movie comes along that goes all out to grab your attention and tickle your funny bone with its outdoor ads, on this occasion it's for Dumber and Dumber To.
Dumb and Dumber To stag movie billboard
This veritable smorgasbord of billboards, small and large, special extension to special installations, certainly want to catch your eye for the comedy sequel starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.
Dumb and Dumber To movie billboard
The film reunites the comedy duo from their 1994 hit Dumb and Dumber, and sees the dimwit friends 'Lloyd Christmas' and 'Harry Dunne' embark on another odyssey twenty years later to search for one of their long lost children in the hopes of gaining a new kidney.

Daily Billboard's favourite creative from the movie sequel's ad campaign is the version which comes complete with a life-like pigeon embellishment attached to the top of the billboard, which makes you do a double-take to see if it's real or not. It's a clever visual gimmick to make you look.

A close second favourite is the pair of idiots sitting astride a stag statue in a scene taken from the movie, which makes you think about the sheer absurdity of what's in store for audiences when they watch the film.

These billboards for the comedy with the Farrelly Brothers at the helm once again were snapped around the streets of L.A. from October 21 to October 25, 2014, from Sunset Boulevard to Fairfax Avenue, Pico Boulevard to Beverly Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard.

The giant-sized Dumb and Dumber To billboards were spied causing a spectacle of themselves at the busy intersection of Franklin and Highland Avenues in Hollywood.

No doubt Jim Carrey is hoping that his return to this film franchise will turn his fortunes around, as none of his recent movies like Mr. Popper's Penguins, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and Kick-Ass 2 have been box office successes.

Meanwhile in recent years, Jeff Daniels has explored more serious roles and even won an Emmy for his portrayal of news anchor 'Will McAvoy' in HBO's journalism drama, The Newsroom.

Let's hope that getting the gang back together for another outing all these years later wasn't a dumb desperate plan and turns out to be as funny as these billboards are.

Elementary season 3 billboard
New York's finest detectives are back for a third season of sleuthing, with plenty of new mysteries, new villains and new rivalries.
Elementary season 3 billboard
When this modern day update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's infamous 'Sherlock Holmes' and 'Dr. Watson' characters first debuted back in September 2012 many people wondered how well it would fare given the popularity of the BBC's acclaimed contemporary Sherlock adaptation with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

Fortunately the onscreen chemistry between Johnny Lee Miller and his female partner-in-crime-solving, Lucy Lui, have helped capture the audience's imagination and so here they are returning for season three.

The standard landscape billboard version was first spied along Pico Boulevard at La Cienega Boulevard on September 30, plus later along La Brea Avenue on October 6, whilst the smaller creatives were spotted along Beverly Boulevard on October 1, 2014.

Black Dynamite season two TV billboard...

Black Dynamite season 2 Adult Swim billboard
Black Dynamite strutted back onto TV screens last weekend for its second season of retro animated adventures, promising explosive new episodes but the same ol' ass whuppins.

Michael Jai White voices the titular character based on Scott Sanders 2009 live-action blaxploitation parody of the same name, once again joined by his groovy ass-kicking crew, 'Bullhorn' (Byron Minns), 'Honey Bee' (Kym Whitely) and 'Cream Corn' (Tommy Davidson).

John Wick movie billboards...

Daily Billboard is always a sucker for a film or TV show title, or logo for that matter, that uses a person as one of its letters, like Keanu Reeves as the 'I' in this billboard creative for his new movie, John Wick.
It may be one of the oldest design tricks in the book, but it still makes for an interesting visual, especially as in this case when your advertising budget may only stretch to smaller sized billboards.

In this gangster revenge thriller, Keanu Reeves plays a former hitman who comes out of retirement and goes on a killing spree when mobsters steal his car and kill the dog left to him by his dying wife. Like the tagline says, you don't want to set him off. Cue bullets, blood and mayhem galore.
These John Wick billboards were first snapped along Santa Monica Boulevard on September 26, then further west along the boulevard on October 3 and above Beverly Boulevard on October 8, 2014.
If you're a fan of the actor, be sure to also check out these giant movie billboards for 47 Ronin from November 2013.

For another example of human figures being worked into a film title, be sure to take a look at this Gravity movie billboard too.

Looks like Keanu Reeves is back on top form in this new action movie which interestingly is co-directed by his former stunt double Chad Stahelski and David Leitch.
