It's not the first time a series has used this approach, as Showtime's Dexter used the magazine homage concept for their third season promo billboards back in 2008, but it's still a fun and impactful out-of-home initiative.
Daily Billboard usually features only billboard advertising formats, but as this campaign also utilises bus shelter posters, which have more detailed coverlines tailored to the show than their larger counterparts, we couldn't resist sharing all the versions we've spotted around the streets of L.A.
To date Daily Billboard has spied tribute covers for Wired, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, US Weekly, New York Magazine, Time, Playboy, People, GQ, The New Yorker and Fortune, but is sure many more ad creatives exist.
This concept is a massive undertaking as each cover has its own image of 'Red' (each with impeccable suits and ties, like his stars and stripes tie for Rolling Stone), a tailored masthead, different font styles and appropriate coverlines, plus The New Yorker version even has its own illustration in the vein of the infamous publication.
The sophomore season billboards and posters were first spied on August 26 and photographed throughout to September 10, 2014, with super-sized versions snapped along the busy Highland Avenue in Hollywood and a real concentration of bus shelter posters in the West Hollywood neighbourhood.

Their high visibility and the sheer volume of billboards and posters almost makes you think that this is the only TV show worth watching this Fall.
When the 'Concierge of Crime' returns with his FBI handler (and possible daughter?) 'Liz Keene' (played by Megan Boone), it'll be interesting to see who is next on his hit list, what further secrets and conspiracies will be uncovered and what new shocking twists will take place in NBC's hit drama.
Be sure to also check out these season one billboards for The Blacklist and if you're not intrigued by these new faux magazine covers, you should be.
If you like these billboard creatives, be sure to stay tuned for another TV WEEK here at Daily Billboard featuring debuting Fall season series and more returning favourites all this week.
