Ever wondered how many people you could fit on the top of a billboard hoarding?
Well wonder no more, as these special extension billboards for
The Expendables 3 help solve that question, and the answer is sixteen.
These jam-packed ad creatives exemplify what this film franchise is is all about, a lot of aging action heroes (and some younger counterparts) having a whole lot of fun.
Whether it's the life-size cut-outs atop a billboard for this third action installment, or the giant-sized psychedelic creative which looks a bit like something out of the opening of the
Brady Bunch or
Celebrity Squares on an acid trip, these outdoor ads certainly scream
'look at me'.
With the film already heaving been leaked online three weeks ahead of release that's either fantastic publicity, or it's going to be a blow to the movie's box office takings (but would those people who illegally download movies ever pay to go to the cinema anyway).
This time around the team led by
Sylvester Stallone's 'Barney Ross' goes up against the ruthless arms dealer
'Conrad Stonebanks' (played by
Mel Gibson), who is determined to destroy the
Expendables team he co-founded.
Looks like the mercenary crew needs some new recruits to join the likes of
Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture and
Terry Crews.
Fortunately some familiar household names such as
Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas, Kelsey Grammar, Wesley Snipes and
Kellan Lutz (plus
Ronda Rousey, Glen Powell, Victor Ortiz and
Robert Davi) are on hand to help save the day (it's a wonder they can fit all their names on the billboard, let alone the cut-outs of their characters).
This unconventionally garish super-sized billboard snapped on the side of the
Mondrian Hotel along
L.A.'s Sunset Strip on July 24, is certainly unlike any previous creative for
The Expendables movies and really catches your interest.
Meanwhile,
Daily Billboard has seen a lot of special extension creatives over the years, but this one first spied along
La Cienega Boulevard on July 17 (and later along
Sunset Boulevard), is certainly arresting and exactly what this medium is made for.
The smaller cast billboard was spotted along Sunset Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard, whilst the black and white Sylvester Stallone portrait ad was spied along Wilshire Boulevard on July 10, 2014.

If you're a fan of the action film franchise, be sure to also check out this
billboard for The Expendables and the
outdoor ad campaign for The Expendables 2 to see how the impressive cast has grown over time.
Who would have thought this film franchise built on big muscles, big guns and big explosions would have spawned three outings, it's almost like the military genre version of the
Fast & Furious movies.
Maybe in the future we'll see action heroes Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel join the cast (although maybe not until the sixth or seventh movies). And then there's always the likes of Steven Seagal, Nicholas Cage and John Travolta.
The possibilities are endless, but they are going to need a bigger billboard.
