X-Men: Days of Future Past movie billboards...

There have been so many great X-Men comic book stories, but there are some which stand the test of time and are true classics. Once such tale is Chris Claremont and John Byrne's Days of Future Past from The Uncanny X-Men issues #140 and #141, published in 1980 (four years before The Terminator ever graced the big screen).

In their bleak dystopian future ruled by mutant-killing Sentinels, the remaining X-Men wear slave collars in mutant internment camps and in a last ditch effort to avert a nuclear catastrophe, a plan is hatched to send an adult 'Kitty Pryde' into the past telepathically to contact the X-Men of her youth and stop the assassination of a key government figure, which is a pivotal turning point in human-mutant history.

Bryan Singer's return to the X-franchise as director takes some of his original cast from the first three X-Men movies and mixes them in with the younger X-Men: First Class cast, replacing Kitty Pride with Hugh Jackman's 'Wolverine' on a crucial time-travelling mission to the past to save mutantkind and all humanity.

Not only do we get the experience and on-screen chemistry of Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart as best frenemies 'Magneto' and 'Professor X', but we also get to enjoy the rash and rebellious youthful versions played by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.

In this version of the iconic story, Jennifer Lawrence's blue metamorphic 'Mystique' is out to kill the creator of the Sentinels, 'Bolivar Trask', played with gusto and a 70's mustache by Games of Thrones Peter Dinklage, whilst a whole new generation of mutants and some familiar faces battle for their lives against super-advanced Sentinels of the future.

This X-Men: Days of Future Past movie billboard mashes up the best of both worlds (or times), plus puts the man with the claws and The Hunger Games actress up front and center to deliver as much star power and attract as much attention as possible.

This superheroic billboard was spied along San Vicente Boulevard on April 28, 2014 and if you like this, be sure to check out this cool ad campaign for The Wolverine movie and more comic book movie billboards.

The X-Men may be hatred and feared by a world they've sworn to protect, but Daily Billboard loves them and all superheroes.

UPDATED: For some reason there seem to be a real concentration of special extension billboards for the new X-Men movie in West L.A. (is that where all the fans of the merry mutants live do you think?).
