Guess Jeans vs Tom Ford Spring 2014 fashion billboards...

Is there an unspoken rule that female fashion models need to be able to recline on their back, arching their body into all manner of provocative poses?

Do you think they go to modeling school to practice lifting their leg at a certain angle, or spend hours building up their stamina by laying topless in wet sand?

Daily Billboard may be demonstrating our total lack of fashionista credentials, but these new season 2014 fashion billboards for Guess Jeans and Tom Ford appeared in the skies of L.A. earlier this year around the same time and there was something about the poses of the models in the ads that struck a familiar chord.

They both have similar stances and are yet almost a yin and yang, facing different directions and one in designer jeans on a sandy shoreline and the other held aloft in a crystal mosaic mini dress as if stage-diving in some trendy nightclub.

Daily Billboard can't quite point our finger on it, but there's something expected about these ad creatives (and Daily Billboard has seen a lot of these stylish fashion billboards over the years), although maybe it's because they both appeared with days of each other that makes you feel like you've seen it all before.

Granted it must be hard coming up with a new fashion story and ad creatives season after season, but maybe looking to other industries like TV, film and lifestyle advertising and the gimmicks that they employ to stand out may help shake things up a bit.

The epic battle of the Spring/Summer 2014 fashion billboards with Guess Jeans billboard featuring Danielle Knudson was first spied on February 7 along L.A.'s infamous Sunset Strip, whilst the Tom Ford creative starring Esther Heesch was snapped on February 5, 2014 just a bit further west along the Strip above Sunset Plaza.

Be sure to check out more fashion ad campaigns here at Daily Billboard to see if you can spy more similar ads from seasons past, like these billboard examples with Sofia Vergara for Kmart and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for Burberry Body gracing the Los Angeles skyline in October 2011.

At the end of the day, maybe it's all down to the eye of the beholder and if it's not broken, maybe there's no need to fix it.

UPDATED: Just as a visual and gender comparison, here's male model Conrad Bromfield in a similar crowd-diving pose for Tom Ford's Spring/Summer campaign, snapped in the same ad site along Sunset Boulevard on April 3, 2014.
