The Fifth Estate movie billboards...

Is he a hero or villain?

Of course Daily Billboard is talking about Benedict Cumberbatch, who's back on the big screen again as another intriguing character in his latest role. This time not from the far future, or re-interpreting an iconic literary figure like 'Sherlock Holmes', but instead ripped from real-life in the modern world.

In The Fifth Estate, the British actor plays Julian Assange, the notorious Australian editor-in-chief and founder of WikiLeaks, the infamous whistle-blower website responsible for publishing secret information and classified material from anonymous news sources and informants.

Apparently the freedom of information activist who's currently ensconced in Ecuador's London embassy isn't too thrilled with this film and the depiction of his rise as the creator of WikiLeaks, which is partially based on the 2011 memoir by his onetime friend and spokesperson for the website, 'Daniel Domscheit-Berg' (played by Daniel Brühl).

But that's the danger of exposing everyone else's secrets, you have to be careful you don't have any skeletons in your own closet.

The portrait ad creative for the thriller was spied high above Vine Street in Hollywood on September 24, whilst the standard landscape billboard was spotted along the Sunset Strip at San Vicente Boulevard on September 30, 2013.

If you're a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, be sure to also check out these Star Trek Into Darkness movie billboards in which he starred at the rebooted augmented human 'Khan'.
