Following a Summer of superheroes, Marvel Comics own Captain America finally makes it to the big screen, with Chris Evans playing the titular Sentinel of Liberty.

Following in the footsteps of fellow Avenger, Chris Hemsworth's giant Thor billboard, Captain America looms large over L.A.'s Sunset Strip on July 8.

Meanwhile a smaller version featuring the star-spangled Avenger was snapped along Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood, plus at Highland and Franklin Avenues on July 6, 2011.

Marvel Studios are obviously going for the patriotic feel with these creatives, so it seems strange they didn't release them for Independence Day on the Fourth of July.
Daily Billboard can't help but think that a more action-oriented billboard with 'Steve Rogers' slinging his indestructible shield would have looked supercool in the skies of L.A.

UPDATED: This second giant billboard for Captain America, showing more of his patriotic shield, was photographed along Wilshire Boulevard on July 18, 2011.
