The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Summer 2014 drinks billboards...

insides something to smile about Coffee Bean Tea Leaf billboard
Not content to let Starbucks claim the skies of L.A. with their refreshing drinks offerings this Summer, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf company has unleashed its own onslaught of cool outdoor ads to get passersby mouths watering.

These product-led creatives may be simple, but with their clever use of evocative words like 'Happy', 'Keep Cool' and 'Smile About' they grab your attention from afar and capture the spirit of enjoying Summer.

They are not just making you a mouth-watering, refreshing drink, they are 'pouring happy', that's a great sentiment (even, or maybe because of the fact, it's topped with calorie-laden whipped cream and chocolate sauce).
Carpe Diem Coffee Bean special extension billboard
So just like this 'Carpe diem' ad creative suggests, it's time to seize the day, all day long and fill up on ice-blended drinks.

And compared to Starbucks who have a short and snappy brand name, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, doesn't exactly trip of your tongue, so they almost have to work hard to get their message across.

The 'Smile about' special extension billboard was first spied along Wilshire Boulevard on July 11, whilst the other standard landscape and smaller ad creatives were snapped on July 30, 2014 along the major commuter routes of Beverly Boulevard, La Cienega Boulevard, Melrose Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie remake billboards...

Giant Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie billboards Downtown LA
What's Summer without a Hollywood remake, as those heroes in a half shell, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles get a 2014 big screen reboot for a new generation.

Springing out of the New York City sewers the humanoid teenage turtles named after infamous Renaissance artists, 'Raphael', 'Leonardo', 'Michelangelo' and 'Donatello', are back to battle evil with their ninja skills.

Created in comic book form by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the kick-ass, pizza-eating amphibian quartet and their mutated rat sensei 'Splinter' have enjoyed many on screen incarnations in cartoons and live-action outings, including their big screen debut way back in 1990.

Now they've returned with a new look (their turtle faces causing some controversy amongst fans) in their familiar different colour masks to try and dominate the hearts of cinema goers everywhere again (just like they are dominating the skies of L.A. at the moment).

Once again they'll face their arch-foe and martial arts expert, 'Shredder', and his Foot Clan, plus this time out their reporter friend 'April O'Neil' is played by Megan Fox (well the new TMNT film is produced by Michael Bay after all).

With superhero movies still all the rage, this outdoor ad campaign which focuses on the Turtles iconic masks is a clever move, especially when you add a bit of technological magic into the mix to spice things up.

Along with all the giant-sized billboards and deluge of other out-of-home ad creatives, this masked billboard along L.A.'s Sunset Strip is extra special, as by day it's orange with blue eyes and by night, to create some intrigue for passersby, the mask turns red and the eyes become green. Those clever ninjas are masters of disguise (aside from being giant green amphibian teenagers, that is).

And here's how it happens, courtesy of being back lit by some electroluminescent Light Tape, which goes on beneath the special vinyl billboard creative to create the cool metamorphosis effect, and add a touch of drama to the skies of L.A.

And if you like this concept, you should also check out this special electroluminescent billboard for The Amazing Spider-man 2 where the villain 'Electro' appeared to battle the web-slinger when the sun went down.

For the uninitiated, Raphael wears the red mask, Leonardo the blue mask, Michelangelo the orange mask and Donatello the purple mask, each with their own preferred fighting weapons, from swords to sais, nunchucks to bo staffs.

The super-sized vertical billboards with all four Turtles in their heroic poses were spied towering over Hollywood at Sunset & Vine, with the rest of the billboard creatives snapped around the streets of L.A. from July 15 to July 27, 2014.

Only time will tell if this latest cinematic incarnation can capture the nostalgia of the 90's and set the stage for a whole new rebooted film franchise which pleases existing and new fans alike.

Of special note is the trio of giant-sized billboards on the side of the Figueroa Hotel in Downtown L.A., which cleverly manages to fit all four Ninja Turtles onto only three towers, creating a fantastic spectacle.

At the end of the day, there's only one thing to be said about this movie - Cowabunga dudes!

Suddenly Daily Billboard has a craving for pizza.

The Expendables 3 movie billboards...

The Expendables 3 special extension movie billboard
Ever wondered how many people you could fit on the top of a billboard hoarding?

Well wonder no more, as these special extension billboards for The Expendables 3 help solve that question, and the answer is sixteen.
The Expendables 3 giant movie billboard
These jam-packed ad creatives exemplify what this film franchise is is all about, a lot of aging action heroes (and some younger counterparts) having a whole lot of fun.
The Expendables 3 film billboard
Whether it's the life-size cut-outs atop a billboard for this third action installment, or the giant-sized psychedelic creative which looks a bit like something out of the opening of the Brady Bunch or Celebrity Squares on an acid trip, these outdoor ads certainly scream 'look at me'.
Expendables 3 special extension billboard
With the film already heaving been leaked online three weeks ahead of release that's either fantastic publicity, or it's going to be a blow to the movie's box office takings (but would those people who illegally download movies ever pay to go to the cinema anyway).
Sylvester Stallone Expendables 3 movie billboard
This time around the team led by Sylvester Stallone's 'Barney Ross' goes up against the ruthless arms dealer 'Conrad Stonebanks' (played by Mel Gibson), who is determined to destroy the Expendables team he co-founded.

Looks like the mercenary crew needs some new recruits to join the likes of Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture and Terry Crews.

Fortunately some familiar household names such as Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas, Kelsey Grammar, Wesley Snipes and Kellan Lutz (plus Ronda Rousey, Glen Powell, Victor Ortiz and Robert Davi) are on hand to help save the day (it's a wonder they can fit all their names on the billboard, let alone the cut-outs of their characters).
The Expendables 3 giant movie billboard
This unconventionally garish super-sized billboard snapped on the side of the Mondrian Hotel along L.A.'s Sunset Strip on July 24, is certainly unlike any previous creative for The Expendables movies and really catches your interest.

Meanwhile, Daily Billboard has seen a lot of special extension creatives over the years, but this one first spied along La Cienega Boulevard on July 17 (and later along Sunset Boulevard), is certainly arresting and exactly what this medium is made for.

The smaller cast billboard was spotted along Sunset Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard, whilst the black and white Sylvester Stallone portrait ad was spied along Wilshire Boulevard on July 10, 2014.

Who would have thought this film franchise built on big muscles, big guns and big explosions would have spawned three outings, it's almost like the military genre version of the Fast & Furious movies.

Maybe in the future we'll see action heroes Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel join the cast (although maybe not until the sixth or seventh movies). And then there's always the likes of Steven Seagal, Nicholas Cage and John Travolta

The possibilities are endless, but they are going to need a bigger billboard.
