I choose Smirnoff Vodka billboard...

I choose Smirnoff Vodka billboard
Initially from a distance Daily Billboard thought that this billboard was asking us to choose between the girl with the wild hair or a bottle of Smirnoff.

On closer inspection we saw that it was the girl who was in fact choosing Smirnoff Vodka, which is lucky really as it would be no contest. Cocktails anyone?

This alcohol billboard was snapped along Sunset Boulevard near Doheny Drive on January 12, 2011.

UPDATED: Here's another variation of this Smirnoff Vodka campaign which was snapped in San Francisco along Mission Street at Shaw Alley on May 17, 2011.

Yesterday's news KFIAM 640 radio billboard...

KFI AM Yesterday's news billboard
Here's another of those fun retro looking billboards from KFI AM 640, this one pointing out the deficiencies of print media being able to supply the most up-to-date news in this digital age of tweets, status updates and of course, live radio.

These homages to vintage illustrations are by artist Scott Saavedra, with art direction and copy by his brother Neil. Be sure to check out the Looking for the Truth KFI billboard that was previously featured here at Daily Billboard.

This witty talk radio advertisement was snapped along La Brea Avenue on January 11 and a sunnier January 18, 2011.

FILM WEEK: Hop teaser billboard...

Hop film billboard
Candy, Chicks and Rock 'n' Roll, indeed.

This teaser billboard for new comedy, Hop, just screams Easter with chocolate bunnies and fluffy chicks abounding. Which is appropriate really as the film is about the Easter Bunny's teenage son, 'E.B.', voiced by Russell Brand, feigning injury by James Marsden and having him take E.B. in and ultimately help him to save Easter.

The teaser trailer for Hop is also worth checking out.

This fun billboard was snapped at Universal Studios Hollywood on January 7, 2011.

FILM WEEK: Just Go With It billboards...

Just Go With It movie billboard
Adam Sandler tells a lie to get the girl of his dreams and his office manager Jennifer Aniston goes along with it, pretending to be his soon to be ex-wife. Then the lie just keeps getting bigger and more elaborate in their new comedy, Just Go With It, and hilarity no doubt ensues.
Just Go With It billboard
You have to wonder whether Adam Sandler is enough of a heartthrob to ever snare a woman like Brooklyn Decker (a fashion model in real life), but then again he does play a successful plastic surgeon in the movie, so maybe it's his bank balance that she finds attractive.

These summery looking billboards for the new movie were photographed along Sunset Boulevard, at The Grove and at Sunset and Vine opposite Hollywood's Cinerama Dome on January 18, 2011.

FILM WEEK: Sucker Punch billboard...

Sucker Punch movie billboard
What's not to like about a billboard crammed with girls in skimpy school outfits wielding samurai swords, giant robots and flame-breathing dragons?

Sucker Punch certainly seems to have it all and looks set to be a real visual spectacle from director Zack Snyder (already famous for dazzling us with such delights as 300 and Watchmen). Let's just hope there's some story in there to piece together all these disparate elements though, as no one wants another movie that's all style and no substance.

This cool billboard was photographed at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank on January 20, 2011.

If you're a fan, be sure to check out these original costumes from Sucker Punch on display.

FILM WEEK: Johnny Depp Public Enemies billboards...

Public Enemies Sunset Strip billboard
With January being a traditionally slow time for new movies, I thought it would be beneficial to liven up FILM WEEK with a blast from the past.

Here's Johnny Depp looming large over L.A.'s Sunset Strip as notorious 1930's American gangster 'John Dillinger' in the 2009 movie Public Enemies.
Johnny Depp Public Enemies billboard
The large billboard version towering over Sunset Boulevard certainly was an attention grabber and was snapped on July 4 and smaller creative along N Cahuenga Boulevard on June 22, 2009.

If you're a fan of the movie or the actor, be sure to also check out these original costumes worn by Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Marion Cotillard in Public Enemies.

FILM WEEK: Cowboys & Aliens teaser billboard...

Cowboys and Aliens movie billboard
Daniel Craig looks suitably brooding and like a cowboy in this movie billboard, that is, aside from the glowing alien-tech on his wrist which is slightly incongruous with the Wild West.

Cowboys & Aliens sounds like an intriguing juxtaposition of past times and futuristic worlds, bullets and laser beams, horse-back riding and flying saucers. If like me you love sci-fi, but are not a fan of Westerns, let's hope that director Jon Favreau can work his magic like he did on Iron Man to make me like the genre a little bit more.

This movie teaser billboard was snapped at Universal Studios Hollywood on January 7, 2011.

FILM WEEK: Hall Pass billboard...

Hall Pass movie billboardThe billboard for Owen Wilson's new comedy, Hall Pass, really stands out and feels like it comes out at you to grab your attention.

And is it me, or is it a little reminiscent of a poster for Fight Club, although in a totally different genre?

In this film, a married man is granted the chance to to have an affair by his wife and his best pal comes along for the ride. Apparently things get complicated when their wives decide to have some fun too.

This movie billboard was photographed along L.A.'s Sunset Strip on January 10, 2011.

FILM WEEK: Gnomeo & Juliet billboard...

Gnomeo and Juliet movie billboard
There's nothing like a silly billboard to cheer you up as you drive along and here's a fantastic example provided by the forthcoming animated movie, Gnomeo & Juliet, to help kick off another FILM WEEK here at Daily Billboard.

You can imagine that a movie about neighbouring garden gnome clans reenacting Shakespeare's tragic love story is just ripe with amusing imagery.

This fun billboard was snapped along L.A.'s Sunset Plaza on January 10, 2011, and as you can see it makes quite an impact even from a distance.

1ST ANNIVERSARY: American Idol superstar billboard...

American Idol JLO billboard
Every superstar begins with a dream.

Truer words have never been spoken and I can't think of a more fitting billboard to help celebrate the first anniversary of Daily Billboard, which was born a year ago on January 22, 2010.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and pop diva Jennifer Lopez, join Grammy Award-winning producer Randy Jackson and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, as season ten's new high-profile judges and you can't help but feel this show has now become more about the judges comments than the contestants trying to get their lucky break.
American Idol season 10 billboard
This square format American Idol tenth season billboard was snapped at the intersection of Beverly Glen Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard in L.A. on January 12, whilst the standard landscape version photographed along La Cienega Boulevard on January 15, 2011.

I dream that Daily Billboard will continue to go from strength to strength in the future, continuing to entertain and delight anyone who enjoys the best film, TV, fashion, technology, drinks and other cool billboards lining our skies.

Here's to another year of fantastic billboards every day.
American Idol Superstar billboardUPDATED: By the thirteenth season high-profile judges had come and gone and the show was trying something a little different to attract viewers, by focusing on the contestants and their motivations in the singing competition, rather than the drama of the judging panel.
American Idol season XIII love to jam billboard
These season thirteen billboards were snapped along L.A.'s Fairfax Avenue on January 16 and along Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks on January 29, 2014.

Even this change is advertising strategy couldn't help the tired format, with many challengers, as the American Idol achieved its lowest ever ratings this season.

Emporio Armani Jan 2010 billboardLet the light shine in.

Snapped along L.A.'s Sunset Boulevard on January 4, this dramatic billboard from Emporio Armani is a fantastic way to greet a new year, with fashion models Sean O'Pry and Anna Selezneva bringing the high glam for 2011.

Check out more stylish Emporio Armani billboards here at Daily Billboard.

Seriously Funny Kids TV billboard...

Seriously Funny Kids TV billboard
Daily Billboard wonders whether we'll see a softer side to Heidi Klum in this new Lifetime show, Seriously Funny Kids, as this billboard suggests.

Infamous for her blunt and cutting (but often very appropriate) comments as a host and judge on reality fashion design contest, Project Runway, this time the supermodel and supermom of four children promises to show us her lighter side in a series of half-hour shows where she talks unscripted to kids.

This whimsical, eye-catching billboard was snapped along L.A.'s Sunset Plaza on January 5, 2011.

Mongo Wrestling Alliance Adult Swim TV billboard...

Dumb Cartoon Show TV billboard
Contrary to what the billboard says, this is not just another dumb cartoon show, but the latest subversive and quirky billboard from Adult Swim - Mongo Wrestling Alliance.

This new animated comedy from the co-creator of Metalocalypse (Tommy Blacha), will follow the misadventures of brothers 'Rusty and Bruno Kleburkuh' trying to restore greatness to their family's tarnished pro-wrestling heritage.

These billboards creatives are always such a highlight when they appear along Sunset Boulevard. They are always bright, in-your-face and stand out from afar, like a good billboard should and this version was snapped on January 12, 2011.

Bold, colourful, quirky, this Prada billboard is a nice, fashionable way to start the new year.

RuPaul's Drag Race season 3 billboard
Gentlemen, start your engines! And may the best woman win!

It's true, Monday's can be a drag, but not with RuPaul and her Drag Race contestants around to cheer you up with their Drag Queen antics.

TV WEEK may be over here at Daily Billboard, but I couldn't resist just one more television show billboard to add a bit of glitz and glamour to the start of your week.

TV WEEK: Off The Map billboards...

Off The Map TV billboard
There are obviously no boundaries to what the makers of new medical drama, Off The Map, will do to make their show a success, as they seem to be evoking the fond memory of 'Sawyer' from LOST for this promotional billboard.

Let's hope the new series isn't just Grey's Anatomy in the jungle, as although imitation is the highest form of flattery, it can often make for some dull, uninspiring viewing.Off The Map ABC billboard
This television billboard featuring Martin Henderson as TV's newest hot doctor, 'Ben Keeton', was snapped along Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood on December 28, 2010 and the squarer version along Fairfax Avenue on January 13, 2011.

And that wraps up another TV WEEK here at Daily Billboard, come back tomorrow for the usual eclectic mix of billboard ads from the world of movies, fashion and more.

TV WEEK: Shameless Sunset Strip billboard...

Shameless Showtime TV billboard
You have to wonder how William H. Macy must feel seeing this massive billboard of himself towering over L.A.'s Sunset Strip.

Maybe it's not so impressive that his character for the new Showtime series, Shameless, is a drunk and the father of six who are pretty much left to fend for themselves, but he seems to be having a good time anyway.

This giant billboard on the side of the 9000 building on Sunset Boulevard was photographed on December 31, 2010, and really makes an impact from near and far.

TV WEEK: Spartacus Gods of the Arena billboard...

Spartacus Gods of the Arena TV billboard
This television billboard for the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena looks suitably gladiatorial and with its vibrant colour really stands out on days when the skies are the clearest blue, or even when they are more overcast.

This Starz sword-and-sandal mini-series is a prequel to their hit show, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, which starred Andy Whitfield as the titular gladiator and leader of a slave uprising against the Roman Empire.

The new six episode show was designed to fill the gap whilst Whitfield underwent cancer treatment, which has sadly recurred, leaving the future of a second season up in the air.

These billboards featuring the ultra-buff Dustin Clare as 'Gannicus', were photographed along N Cahuenga Boulevard on January 3 in sunshine and La Brea Avenue in gloom, on January 2, 2010.

Californication season 4 Showtime billboard
David Duchovny returns for the fourth season of his popular TV show, Californication, and from the looks of it all the sex, drugs and alcohol is taking its toll judging by this police mug-shot creative.

These billboards for the Showtime series were photographed along L.A.'s Sunset Strip and behind the ArcLight cinemas in Hollywood on Vine Street on December 24, 2010.

TV WEEK: Skins remake billboard...

Skins remake TV billboard
MTV imports another idea from the U.K. for this remake of the controversial Channel 4 teen drama Skins.

What's great about this edgy show is that unlike series like Gossip Girl, the teenagers are actually played by real sixteen year olds and not twenty-something actors and deal with real-life situations like drink, drugs, sex and sexual orientation, eating disorders, dysfunctional families and death.

This cocky and provocative billboard for Skins was snapped along L.A.'s Sunset Strip on December 30, 2010.

TV WEEK: Southland season three billboards...

Southland season 3 TV billboard
Cancelled after the first season by NBC and resurrected on TNT for a second and now third season, gritty L.A. based cop show Southland returns with these fantastic billboards.

The illuminated nighttime cityscape, with helicopter flying overhead, in the first billboard is the perfect visual to evoke Los Angeles straight away, and the misty blue marine layer and street lights are a great colour choice and make for a striking ad.

The second billboard really embraces the tagline 'You never know what's around the corner', whilst also showing off the shows stars to great effect.

Both creatives for Southland season three were snapped along Sunset Boulevard on December 28, 2010.
