ANIMATION WEEK takes a slightly darker turn today, with a not so family-friendly animated show chronicling the adventures of death metal band, Dethklok.
Daily Billboard loves this dramatic billboard for Adult Swim's animated TV series Metalocalypse. The impactful purple colour and arresting image really stand out against the greenery of the Hollywood Hills behind.
This menacing billboard was photographed on November 17, 2009 along Sunset Boulevard just below the Chateau Marmont Hotel.
This advertisement for How to train your Dragon tries to do the fantastic animated movie justice by having unsuspecting hero 'Hiccup' astride the Night Fury Dragon,'Toothless', almost bursting out of the billboard along Sunset Boulevard.
How to train your Dragon is such a refreshing and original tale, that it's hard to capture the excitement and energy the movie has, but this colourful billboard does a great job at doing just that.
The billboard was photographed on March 4, 2010 and looks great against that lovely blue L.A. sky.
ANIMATION WEEK continues with this spectacular wall billboard for the most recent Disney animated movie, The Princess and the Frog.
The musical feature film made history by creating the first black animated Disney princess, 'Tiana', andwas a visual treat for drivers and pedestrians alike along Sunset Boulevard onOctober 28, 2009.
The movie billboard is just a riot of colour and colourful characters, with a classic, fun Disney feel, which really stands out from a distance.
UPDATED: Here are three more fantastic creatives for this Disney movie. The first featuring the trumpet-playing alligator 'Louis' was snapped on October 12 along Fairfax Avenue and was replaced by the colourful cast version, which was photographed on November 30, 2009.
The second super-sized billboard along Sunset Plaza, featuring the voodoo witch doctor 'Dr. Facilier', was captured on November 17, 2009.
Welcome to ANIMATION WEEK here at Daily Billboard where we'll celebrate animated movies and TV shows every day this week.
Was it really 2001 when a big green, grumpy unknown ogre came crashing onto the movie scene and changed the face of animated feature films? The DreamWorks movie made us realise that it wasn't just Disney and Pixar that could make great CGI animation and that classic fairy-tale characters could be given a more grown-up spin to appeal to a broader audience.
Who ever thought Shrek would be so popular to be releasing his fourth movie, Shrek: The Final Chapter or Shrek: Forever After as it's also known, but that's what happens when you have great characters and a good story.
Although this eye-catching billboard has new folklore protagonist Rumpelstiltskin atop Shrek, I feel like there's something or someone missing, and that's my favourite character, 'Donkey'.
This billboard was photographed at the top of La Cienega Boulevard atSunset Boulevard in L.A. on April 15, 2010.
UPDATED: The movie billboard was also snapped at the corner of Highland and Melrose Avenues on May 7, plus this other billboard showing more of the fairytale cast atop the Hollywood & Highland Center on May 10, 2010.
Singer-songwriter Sade Adu strikes a pose for this fantastic billboard for British group Sade's first album in ten years, Soldier of Love, along Sunset Boulevard in L.A.
This is the first material from the Brit and Grammy Award-Winning band since their 2000 studio album, Love Rock, and sixth album in total. Who can forget soul classics like Your Love is King, Smooth Operator and The Sweetest Taboo.
I love the imagery and colours, adapted from the new album cover, and the billboard snapped on march 28, 2010 really stands out against that blue Californian sky.
Daily Billboard is loving the more practical advertising creative for Apple's new sleek and stylish iPad.
Whereas previous campaigns for other Apple products, like the iPod, have focused on more of a fun and funky brand image, this new billboard campaign is more lifestyle in feel and seems to highlight the iPad's more practical applications, like reading books or looking at photos.
The billboard is simple, yet effective and this example was photographed at the corner of La Cienega and Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood on April 8, 2010.
These iron men look like they mean business and someone's in for a dose of bullets and repulsor rays in this impactful movie billboard photographed on Melrose Avenue at N Formosa Avenue on April 14, 2010.
Don Cheadle replaces Terrence Howard as Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes, War Machine, in the sequel to Marvel Comics highly successful Iron Man movie.
I'm not the biggest fan of replacing main characters in movie franchises, but there seemed to have been lots of rumours concerning appearance fees and contract negotiations, so maybe it's for the best that Don Cheadle suits up in a more weaponized version of the Iron Man armour to help his pal Tony Stark(Robert Downey Jr.) in Iron Man 2.
This is a great billboard for NCIS: Los Angeles with LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell looking down from above as if they've just knocked you to the floor, with the sun shining in the background and obligatory palm trees to let you know it's L.A.
NCIS: Los Angeles stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Los Angeles and this TV series is thespin-off of NCIS.
This billboard was photographed along Fairfax Avenue near the Farmers Market in L.A. on August 28, 2009.
Hot on the heels of another movie remake, Clash of the Titans, comes a new take on the horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street.
You do have to ask if it is really necessary to remake an iconic movie that has been so notoriously ingrained into movie goers minds, but at least the billboard is spot on. It totally captures the feel of the cult horror villain, Freddy Krueger, with his finger knives, scarred flesh and red and black sweater.
Also with the amazing actor playing him, Jackie Earle Haley (who played Rorschach in Watchmen), Daily Billboard believes they've found a worthy successor to Robert Englund who made the villain famous.
This creepy billboard was photographed along Sunset Boulevard on April 3, 2010.
For me this mono billboard for the Hale Bob fashion brand evokes Madonna's 1989black-and-white music video 'Cherish', when she plays with buff mermen amongst the surf. The long hair of some of the male models are also reminiscent of those 90's muscular pin-up models.
I'm not sure if that was the feeling the art director was going for, but it still has fresh, summery beach feel as well.
This sexy fashion billboard was taken on March 20, 2010 at the intersection of La Cienega and Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles.
There's not really that much to say about this simple and colourful billboard for Technicolor, aside for the fact that this is the reason it stands out so much amongst the cluttered L.A. skyline. The simplicity of Technicolor's vibrant logo colours against that black background really does catch your eye as you drive along Sunset Boulevard near their Hollywood HQ.
The billboard was photographed on February 13, 2010 around the time that Thomson, the French-headquartered electronics and media conglomerate, rebranded the entire company after its American film technology subsidiary, Technicolor, from the beginning of February 2010.
Movies famously filmed in Technicolor include The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and many more cinematic classics.
This billboard for the betrayed elite covert operations team, The Losers, is probably one of the most colourful movie billboards around at the moment and Daily Billboard loves it. It screams vibrancy and energy, and promises an explosive, action-packed movie, so let's hope it doesn't disappoint.
The gun-toting, knife-wielding main focus of the billboard are Zoe Saldana as 'Aisha', Idris Elba as 'Roque' and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as 'Clay'.
The Losers is another film from Hollywood based on a comic book, like forthcoming movies Kick-Ass and Iron Man 2, but this time from DC Comics Vertigo imprint.
This fantastic billboard was photographed at N Cahuenga Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard in L.A. on April 4, 2010.
This is an almost perfect billboard for the Sex and the City movie sequel.
The hair, the dress, that clutch, those sunglasses - it just looks so fashion darling, with Sarah Jessica Parker as 'Carrie' strutting her stuff down the streets of New York City framed by glittering mirrorball fabulousness.
Photographed along Sunset Boulevard on April 4, 2010, this confident billboard has Daily Billboard really excited for Sex and the City 2.
Let's 'Carrie On' until the film is released on May 27, 2010. Oh, and did Daily Billboard forget to mention the shoes?
Daily Billboard likes the feel of this mono billboard for True Religion Jeans along Sunset Boulevardand it looks great against that blue Californian sky.
The buff male model seems to be channeling 'Sawyer' from LOST, whilst the female model is reminiscent of Twiggy from the swinging 60's.
In fact the male face (and body) of True Religion is French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry (long-term boyfriend and father to the daughter of Halle Berry), whilst he's joined by Sports Illustrated Swimsuit regular Tori Praver.
This eye-catching billboard for the second season of United States of Tara perfectly conveys the theme of the show that won Toni Collette's a 2009 Emmy and 2010 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
She stars as 'Tara Gregson', a wife and mother of two children, who also has to cope with life with dissociative identity disorder, as the strap-line sums up so succinctly 'One husband, two kids and multiple personalities'.
This massive billboard was photographed on March 5, 2010 along Highland Avenue in L.A.
What a great way to start the week, with some heavy metal, courtesy of Iron Man and War Machine.
This fantastic movie billboard for Iron Man 2 caught my eye on April 2, 2010, along Wilshire Boulevard, near the LA Brea Tar Pits, with the Marvel Comics characters in iconic heroic posing mode.
I'm sure two suits of armour will mean twice the fun in the sequel to Robert Downey Jr.'s comeback movie of 2008. This time he's accompanied by Don Cheadle as the new 'Rhodey' donning the War Machine suit and the other comeback king, Mickey Rourke as their villainous foe, 'Whiplash'.
Gwyneth Paltrow alsoreturns as 'Tony Stark's' loyalassistant 'Pepper Potts' and Scarlett Johansson brings more sex appeal to the movie as the super-spy 'Black Widow'.
Let's hope there are more billboards to come showcasing what is sure to be an action-packed movie.
It looks like cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester will be back with a vengeance in the second half of the first season of blockbuster musical comedy Glee.
Making Jane Lynch's tracksuit wearing character the focus of this billboard makes total sense as she has become this instantly recognisable icon for the show. It's also great that this billboard is an ensemble creative so your favourite Glee club members are all present.
This new advertisement for Glee was photographed at the corner of Sweetzer Avenue and Sunset Boulevard on April 1, 2010.
With the musical comedy sensation Glee returning to USA screens for all new episodes on April 13, 2010, Daily Billboard couldn't resist featuring this spectacular wall billboard from the launch of the first season.
Daily Billboard loved the whole fun advertising campaign with the use of the loser hand sign incorporated into show's name above the glee club members.
This billboard photographed on September 24, 2009, on the side of the Andaz Hyatt Hotel on Sunset Boulevard features cheerleader 'Quinn' (Dianna Agron) above aspiring star 'Rachel' (Lea Michele).
Not only is it a humorous billboard, but the colours also look amazing and really pop against that blue Californian sky.
Come back tomorrow for a glimpse of the new billboard for the returning series.
The visually arresting billboard is complete with the latest and 11th incarnation of the Time Lord himself ('The Doctor' played by Matt Smith), new companion ('Amy Pond' played by Karen Gillan) and new series logo (incorporating the shape of the time-traveling TARDIS) .
'All of time and space... Follow Me'. OK then, we will.
